SPD collaborated with Federal Realty, the City of Rockville, Maryland, planners, architects, historians, community representatives, and public agencies to create the Environmental Communications Master Plan for the Rockville Town Center. The 8-acre, 12-square block area establishes a “New Town Center,” with dynamic mixed-uses that include retail, residential, office, institutional, parking, and a new central public plaza. The Environmental Communications Master Plan integrates identity, direction, interpretation, and regulatory elements for the site, buildings, and parking. SPD also created interpretive elements to tell the eclectic history of Rockville. These elements include: gateway towers, historic “vias”, artifacts, murals, and engravings. All interpretive elements seamlessly integrate into the architecture, landscape, and site furniture.
